In response to a call for research, in 2001 Phil Richardson and his team began work on the important and influential Tavistock Adult Depression Study.

This long-term study was taken over by David Taylor in 2007 after Phil Richardson’s death. Felicitas Rost is currently the lead researcher. In 2015 it produced its seminal paper Pragmatic randomized controlled trial of long-term psychoanalytic psychotherapy for treatment-resistant depression: the Tavistock Adult Depression Study (TADS),  published in World Psychiatry.
